November 28th is the Day of the Mediterranean - a day to acknowledge the shared identity and common heritage of the Mediterranean countries. To honor this day, the Anna Lindh Foundation selects a number of organisations each year to host community-based musical performances simultaneously across the 42 Mediterranean countries. Representing Cyprus, Windcraft Loud was chosen to participate in this initiative by presenting a concert of the Windcraft Band and Windcraft Voices on Tuesday 28 November 2023 at Melina Merkouri Hall in Nicosia.
This time, the music was beyond just a performance; it was a heartfelt expression of unity and genuine attempt to connect people through the universal language of music. Through our music we made an effort to bridge our pain and sorrow, spreading the sounds of solidarity.
The concert included unique renditions of pieces from Cyprus, Greece, the Balkans, Italy and the Sephardic tradition. Through their particular arrangements, the wind instruments of the 20-member Windcraft Band and the acapella vocal ensemble Windcraft Voices travelled us to different traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean, highlighting their common as well as diverse features.
The performance was organised by Windcraft Loud with the support of the Nicosia Municipality. This was an initiative of the Anna Lindh Foundation in coordination with the Mediterranean Day and it was co-funded by the European Union.
