There's an ongoing debate pretty much unique to the profession of conductor: are they as good in the recording studio (or empty hall) as they are live. It's a false dichotomy, I think, for reasons I discuss in the video. In any case, here are 20+ conductors whose "studio" efforts often equalled or surpassed their typical work in concert:
