About OOPUS – Audiovisual Folktronica from Estonia

OOPUS is an Estonian audiovisual folktronica group that fuses ancient runo songs with electronic dance music styles like techno, acid, dub, and ambient. Blending live analog synths, Estonian bagpipes, and custom-built light installations, we create high-energy experiences that turn folk heritage into the sound of the future.

Founded by Mari Meentalo and Johannes Ahun during their studies at Tartu University Viljandi Culture Academy, OOPUS grew into a full collective with the addition of visual artist Aleksander Sprohgis and dancer Raho Aadla. Together, we transform every performance into a multisensory journey inspired by Estonian folklore, cosmic mythology, and the raw pulse of underground rave culture.

We’ve performed at festivals like Burning Man (USA), ESNS (NL), Linecheck (ITA), Nordischer Klang (GER), and Viljandi Folk Festival (EST), and collaborated with events such as Tallinn Music Week, Kristjan Järvi’s Sunbeam Productions, and brands like BMW Estonia and Tartu 2024 European Capital of Culture.
