BADBADNOTGOOD: Live Concert | CBC Music Live

Experimental instrumental group @BADBADNOTGOOD took fans on a sonic odyssey for its performance at History, a music venue in Toronto. The wall-to-wall crowd was locked in as the band played a set dominated by tracks from its latest album, Mid Spiral. The stage was solely lit by the glow of four film projectors, each displaying overlapping visuals that created mesmerizing textures, beautifully complementing the rich soundscapes. The core trio of Alexander Sowinski on drums, Leland Whitty on saxophone, and Chester Hansen on bass was joined by an impressive lineup of guest musicians: Felix Fox-Pappas on keys, Juan Carlos Medrano Magallanes on percussion, and Kaelin Murphy on synth. The show opened with the hypnotic Eyes on Me, and the band seamlessly navigated through most of the album, peppering the performance with experimental detours and adding fresh layers to each track. They basically played straight through, giving the entire set an uninterrupted flow. A show highlight came when Baby Rose, both the opening act and a BBNG collaborator, joined the band to lend her soulful vocals to Time Moves Slow. The night culminated with a stunning rendition of The Chocolate Conquistadors, a track included in the Grand Theft Auto franchise and famously featuring the late MF Doom. While BadBadNotGood played the instrumental version, the band paid tribute to Doom by projecting his signature mask onstage, closing out the show on an unforgettable note.
