Rage Against the Machine is an American rock band from Los Angeles, consisting of rapper Zack de la Rocha, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford, and drummer Brad Wilk. The band was one of the first to combine the genres of hard rock and rap into rapcore. The debut album Rage Against the Machine was released in 1992, with the best-known single "Killing in the Name". The album was followed by Evil Empire (1996) and The Battle of Los Angeles (1999). Just before the release of the cover album Renegades (2000), De la Rocha left the band. The remaining members continued with Chris Cornell as Audioslave. After Cornell left in 2007, Rage Against the Machine reunited for a series of reunion concerts, including European shows in 2008 and 2010. In 2016, Morello, Commerford, and Wilk, along with two Public Enemy members (Chuck D and DJ Lord) and rapper B-real of Cypress Hill, formed a new band called Prophets of Rage. The band is known for their radical left-wing lyrics and political actions both inside and outside of music. De la Rocha's lyrics are mostly political. The band members have frequently opposed capitalism, and have supported anarchist and socialist groups and individuals. The music also relies on Tom Morello's experimental guitar sounds.
