About the quartet:
Winners of the 2023 Guitar Foundation of America International Ensemble Competition, the Mela Guitar Quartet are celebrated for their imaginative programming, inventive arrangements, and commissioning of acclaimed original works. Praised by Gramophone for their “collective technical brilliance and preternatural ensemble making,” they have released three albums, including the complete guitar quartets of Anthony Burgess and the chamber works of Stephen Dodgson on Naxos, and their own Pluck, Strum, and Hammer!. Notable performances include London’s Southbank Centre, Barbican Centre, Westminster Abbey, and even Jimi Hendrix’s bedroom, as well as tours of China and an upcoming U.S. tour in 2025. Formed in 2015 by graduates of the Guildhall School and Royal Academy of Music, the group has earned recognition as International Guitar Festival Young Artists and Park Lane Group Young Artists, and continues to expand the guitar quartet repertoire through innovative arrangements and premieres by composers such as Laura Snowden, Michael Finnissy, and Stephen Goss.
