The Cure is a new wave band formed in 1978 in Crawley (United Kingdom) with singer/guitarist Robert Smith (Blackpool, 1959) as the driving force. Originally, the band was called The Easy Cure. In addition to new wave, the band is also placed in the genres of gothic rock and post-punk.
