From the Margravial Opera House, Bayreuth 2023
Valer Sabadus performs accompanied by the {oh!} Orkiestra, performs works of Carl Heinrich Graun, a composer most of whose works have been forgotten.
Born in Brandenburg in 1704, Carl Heinrich Graun made a name for himself as a student, and in 1724 was appointed to the court of Brunswick as Johann Adolph Hasse's successor. Prussia's Crown Prince Frederick - later to become the Great - was so impressed by his talent that he hired him at his court in Rheinsberg. It was here, under Frederick, that Graun composed his most remarkable stage works, including Cleopatra e Cesare, which opened the Königliche Hofoper - now the Staatsoper Berlin - and Montezuma, for which the King of Prussia himself wrote the libretto.
