This new quartet brings together longtime friends: drummer Chad Taylor and guitarist Marc Ribot have played together for over 12 years in Spiritual Unity, and The Ribot / Grimes / Taylor Trio; Ribot and Jay Rodriguez (sax, flute) have been meeting groups since the early 1990s, when Ribot participated in Jay's legendary Groove Collective sessions. New to the scene is bassist Nick Dunston, whom Ribot met in 2018 when Nick attended a seminar at Marc's held at the New School in New York. Ribot subsequently invited Nick to a gig and was impressed by his creativity and imagination.

During a recent European tour to promote their latest record, Songs Of Resistance (Anti-, 2018), Ribot realised that this quartet had the potential to be a current project and one to record with.
"The level of musicianship with Chad, Jay and Nick is so high! I sensed that this is the group with which to continue the exploration we started with Spiritual Unity (the Albert Ayler-influenced project with legendary bassist Henry Grimes, Chad Taylor and the late Roy Campbell Jr.), and delve into some compositions I've been working on for a while. "

Nick Dunston is a rising star who has already worked with the likes of Vijay Ayer and Tyshawn Sorey.
The prestigious Rolling Stones magazine speaks of Ribot as the "go-to guitar guy" for Tom Waits, John Zorn, T-Bone Burnett, etc.
Jay Rodriguez has been nominated for a Grammy for an impressive discography, with collaborations ranging from Elvis Costello to Stevie Wonder, and is a founding member of Groove Collective.
