Destiny's Child was an iconic American girl group that originated in Houston, Texas as Girl's Tyme in 1990. After initial struggles, the quartet of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett signed with Columbia Records in 1997, adopting the name Destiny's Child. Their breakthrough came with the release of "No, No, No" and the immensely successful album "The Writing's on the Wall" (1999), featuring chart-toppers like "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Say My Name". Despite their triumphs, internal conflicts and legal battles arose, leading to the departure of Roberson and Luckett.
In 2000, Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin joined the group, but Franklin departed shortly after, solidifying Destiny's Child as a trio. Their album "Survivor" (2001) resonated with audiences, producing hits like "Independent Women", "Survivor", and "Bootylicious". Following this success, they announced a hiatus in 2001 to explore individual careers. The trio reunited in 2004 for their final studio album, "Destiny Fulfilled", which spawned hits like "Lose My Breath" and "Soldier". Although the group officially disbanded in 2006, Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle have come together for special performances, including the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show and the 2018 Coachella festival.
Destiny's Child's impact on the music industry is monumental, with over 60 million records sold by 2013. They are recognized by Billboard as one of the greatest musical trios, and they rank among the top artists of the 2000s. Their legacy is further highlighted by Grammy nominations and wins, solidifying their status as R&B legends.
