ensemble132 is a roster-based chamber music collective with innovative programming centered around new arrangements of existing masterworks. Each concert presents a different set of artists in novel reimaginings of classic repertoire, from symphonies to sonatas, through the ensemble’s intimate, collaborative voice. Renowned musicians have praised ensemble132’s forward- thinking arrangements as “absolutely terrific . . . a delight [which] succeeds in opening up the sound of the piece in meaningful ways...” (Robert McDonald), “truly fantastic” (Gary Louie), and “a fresh approach to music that is second to none” (Herbert Greenberg). Alongside traditional concerts, ensemble132 presents interactive performances with real-time demonstrations of the arranging process. The group becomes a living instrument, realizing the audience’s musical voice and creating a proactive listening experience. ensemble132’s versatile structure has promoted extraordinary agility during the COVID-19 pandemic. Highlights include a live-streamed benefit concert for the Boston Relief Fund, a digital premiere of Robert Schumann’s Carnaval arranged for the group, and a streamed Groupmuse series with home concerts featuring roster artists.
