Alanis Nadine Morissette (born June 1, 1974) is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Alanis Morissette was born in Ottawa, Canada. Her parents are the French-speaking Canadian Alan Morissette and Georgia Feuerstein, who fled Hungary in 1956. They looked for a feminine variant of the name Alan and finally found the Greek name Alanis in a newspaper. She has an older brother (Chad) and a twin brother (Wade). She plays the piano at the age of 6 and writes songs from the age of 9. Two years later she self-released the self-written Fate stay with me as a single. In early 1986, she became nationally known for her participation in a number of episodes of the Canadian children's program You can't do that on television. She stands out for her talent, and participates in a talent show, but strands in the first round, singing the national anthem at important sports competitions.
