Nikolay Medvedev shapes this program with architectural clarity, refined voicing, and a flexible, unforced sense of pulse. In Haydn’s Andante with Variations he favors transparency and long, lyrical lines; Liszt’s Sonetto 123 del Petrarca unfolds in a bel canto glow. The Liszt/Busoni Réminiscences du Don Juan is delivered with precision and control, the bravura always anchored by a clear melodic thread. Schumann’s worlds receive distinct profiles: Carnaval with elastic rubato and coloristic nuance, the intimate Innig from Davidsbündlertänze held in focused stillness, and the Toccata energized yet meticulously articulated. Mendelssohn’s Fantasie in F-sharp minor and the sparkling Op. 16/2 Scherzo round out the evening with lightness of touch, rhythmic buoyancy, and poised timing. Technique serves expression; style and structure remain in balance.

Nikolay Medvedev (born in 1986) is a Berlin-based pianist noted for technical command and expressive clarity. He studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov College and the Gnessin Russian Academy with Tatiana Zelikman, working with mentors such as Nikolai Petrov and Dmitry Bashkirov. A prizewinner at the Horowitz (Kyiv), Campillos (Spain) and Vladigerov (Bulgaria) competitions and recipient of the 2010 Triumph Youth Prize, he has performed across Europe, the USA, South Africa and China. From 2016–2022 he taught piano and chamber music at Gnessin. Since relocating to Berlin in 2022, he appears widely and collaborates with artists from leading opera houses (ROH, Staatsoper Berlin, Deutsche Oper, Bavarian State Opera, Zurich Opera).
