Muse is a British rock band from Teignmouth, formed in 1994. The band consists of singer, guitarist and pianist Matthew Bellamy, drummer Dominic Howard and bassist Christopher Wolstenholme. Muse's first studio album, Showbiz, was released in 1999. Singles like Muscle Museum, Unintended and Sunburn originate from this. The band was often compared to another British rock band, namely Radiohead. Origin of Symmetry, their second studio album, was released in 2001. It reached number three on the UK Albums Chart and achieved platinum status. The singles Plug In Baby and New Born both reached the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart. Two years later, the third studio album Absolution was released on September 21, 2003. This became the band's first number one hit in the United Kingdom. The album's lyrics deal with conspiracy theories and political and scientific beliefs. In 2006, the band continued with the Mercury Music Prize-nominated Black Holes and Revelations, which featured the song Supermassive Black Hole as the lead single. In 2009 the fifth studio album The Resistance was released, which became number one in the Dutch and Belgian charts. In 2012 the album The 2nd Law was released and in 2015 the album Drones followed. At the end of 2018 the 8th album Simulation Theory was released, which was preceded by the singles Dig Down in the summer. At the beginning of 2022, Muse will make themselves heard again and will release new material. The singles Won't Stand Down and Compliance are released. On August 26, 2022, the ninth studio album was released under the title Will of the People. Muse's music is described as alternative rock, progressive rock or space rock, and is a mix of (hard) rock with classical influences that has sometimes been supplemented with electronic music in later work. Another characteristic is the bombastic and pretentious in the music, which is also reflected in the band's performances. Bellamy often uses his falsetto voice and writes about topics such as love, social issues, the extraterrestrial and political issues.
