Starting April 25, 2022, the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Luigi Gaggero, will tour seven German concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonie and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. The concert at the Kulturpalast Dresden will kick off the tour. The musicians participating want to promote the preservation of Ukrainian culture.

The program mainly features works by well-known Ukrainian composers: Maxim Berezovsky’s recently rediscovered Symphony in C major from 1773, the short “Melody” by Miroslav Skoryk, the Third Symphony by Borys Lyatoshynsky in its original version from 1951. And the Ukrainian program is complemented by the “Poème” for violin and orchestra by French composer Ernest Chausson.

The soloist is Ukrainian violinist Diana Tishchenko, who is considered one of the most exciting young artists of recent years and has won several international competitions. She has been a guest on major international concert stages and sees herself as an ambassador of Ukrainian culture.

The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra is a Ukrainian state orchestra with a 40-year history. It regularly plays at national events, such as the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence in August 2021. It is the only orchestra in the country to have established an orchestral academy to foster talented young musicians. Since 2018, Italian Luigi Gaggero has led the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra as principal conductor. Under his leadership, the orchestra has become one of the most prestigious ensembles in Ukraine. Luigi Gaggero studied percussion and conducting. In addition to his international conducting work, he is professor of cymbal at the Conservatoire and Académie Supérieure de Musique in Strasbourg.

The Dresden Philharmonic have invited the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra to play at their principal venue the Kulturpalast Dresden. We would like to thank Sachsen TV for kindly making this livestream available to us.
