The joyful cantata Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten - recorded here for All of Bach at the annual Friends concert of the Netherlands Bach Society - was written on the occasion of a wedding celebration. The poet arranged an expressive bouquet: five arias with short recitatives. The composer, Bach, lets us hear the poetry more than ever before and skilfully builds up to the highlight of the day: the ball. So one quick listen – and then it’s time for a knees-up!
