Tim Bergling (8 September 1989 – 20 April 2018), better known by his stage name Avicii, was a Swedish DJ and music producer. The pseudonym Avicii is based on Avīci, the lowest level in Buddhist hell. Earlier he also released some songs under the names Tim Berg and Tom Hangs. He broke through internationally with his hit single Bromance and achieved success with Levels, Wake Me Up, Hey Brother, Waiting for Love, Addicted to You, The Nights, Without You and the posthumously released SOS, among others. Bergling signed a contract with record label Dejfitts Plays in May 2007, after he released a remix of the Commodore 64 game Lazy Jones. This song led to his first release on Strike Recordings, titled Lazy Lace. In 2010, Avicii released a collaboration with Swedish DJ John Dahlbäck, titled Don't Hold Back. In addition, Avicii worked with big names such as Tiësto and Sebastian Ingrosso. His work is mainly based on electronic music, but EMI also decided to release a vocal version of his song Bromance in 2010 with the title Seek Bromance. This song was recorded with the English singer Amanda Wilson. In October 2010, Avicii signed a record deal with EMI. In 2012 and 2013, Avicii was voted 3rd in DJ Magazine's annual top 100 of the most popular DJs. In the years that followed, he became 6th, 7th and 11th consecutively. His high ranking on the latter list was partly due to the international commercial successes of Levels (2011), I Could Be the One (2012) and Wake Me Up (2013). Wake Me Up was even at the top of both the Single Top 100 and the Dutch Top 40 in the Netherlands after two weeks and became the best-selling single in the Netherlands in 2013, according to the sales year list of GfK Dutch Charts. Hey Brother, the third single from the album True, also topped the Dutch Top 40 and the Ultratop 50 after five weeks. In 2014, he worked with Coldplay singer Chris Martin on A Sky Full of Stars, which Coldplay later released on their album Ghost Stories. He also collaborated with Coldplay and Beyoncé on Hymn for the Weekend. He also worked on Lovers on the Sun by David Guetta. On September 8, 2014, on his 25th birthday, it was announced that all upcoming performances of the DJ were canceled due to serious health problems. On March 29, 2016, the DJ announced that he would stop touring in August 2016. However, he remained active as a producer. On August 10, 2017, he released the EP Avīci with five new songs and a remix. This was supposed to be the first EP of a three-part series, but due to his death, this series never got further than the first part. On June 6, 2019, the album "Tim" was released posthumously. This album was initially supposed to be 16 songs, but this eventually became 12. This album was the first album by Bergling to reach the number 1 position in the Dutch Album Top 100. The proceeds of this album went entirely to the "Tim Berglin Foundation.
