Evanescence is an American rock band from Little Rock, Arkansas. The band originally consisted of Amy Lee (vocals/piano/guitar/harp) and Ben Moody (guitar, piano). They met at a camp, where they found out that their musical tastes were not far apart, and they started writing songs together and playing in local venues. This is how Evanescence was born. During concerts, John LeCompt (guitar) and Rocky Gray (drums) always complemented the band. Lee and Moody have remained the basis of the band for a long time. It was all the more remarkable that Moody left at the end of 2003, in the middle of a tour through Europe. In 2005, Terry Balsamo succeeded Moody as guitarist. It is not entirely certain why Moody resigned, but according to an interview with Amy in the magazine Aardschok because he was in trouble with himself. The musical difference of opinion (Moody wanted to sell as many CDs as possible, Lee wanted to go more creatively) also played a role. In the summer of 2006, bassist Will Boyd also stopped. He didn't want to start touring again. Tim McCord became his successor. On May 4, 2007, the LA Daily Newspaper announced that John LeCompt had been kicked out of the band by singer Amy Lee, in her own words for no good reason. LeCompt then announced that drummer Rocky Gray was also quitting Evanescence, because they wanted to put all their energy into the new band Machina. Rocky Gray and John Lecompt were replaced by Will Hunt and Troy Mclawhorn, both of Dark New Day. On August 7, 2015, it was announced that guitarist Terry Balsamo was leaving the band. Jen Majura was presented as the new band member.
