K V Narayanaswamy - Live Concert, 1960's #KVNNovember

Nādabhṛṅga presents the next concert recording in this series celebrating the 98th Birth Anniversary of Sangita Kalanidhi Mahavidwan Sri Palghat K V Narayanaswamy. Today's concert is a fantastic recording, most probably dating to the late 1960's. Unfortunately there are no details available for the venue or the exact date for this recording. Sri KVN begins this concert akin to diving into the deep end of the pool. There is no preamble, but rather a direct plunge into heavy ragas and compositions. The four opening ragas are hefty and deeply classical. His explorations of the major ragas in this concert are quite brilliant, rich with spontaneous ideas. His niraval forays are as always a treat for the listener, being drenched in sahitya bhava. The swara-kalpana sections bristle with his characteristic laya acumen. Sri KVN had the rare ability to render songs in a tempo that was naturally most apt to each, an ability he clearly inherited from his guru, the inimitable Mahavidwan Sri Ariyakkudi Ramanuja Iyengar. This is in ample display throughout this concert, from breakneck fast to calm and sedate. There are also a few rarely heard renditions from his rather vast repertoire sprinkled along the way. This concert recording has been digitally re-mastered for a pristine listening experience.
